Bronze Buddha, Xiangshan Temple, Luoyang, Henan, China

Bronze Shakyamuni Buddha at Xiangshan Temple, Luoyang, Henan, near the Longmen Grottoes. This is a reconstruction of a famous ancient temple--but the reconstruction dates to the Qing dynasty! (Most of it is much newer, however). It's across the river from the majority of the grottoes at Longmen.

Monastic Friends, Xiangshan Temple, Fu'an, Fujian, China


These two good friends are the abbess Yixiang and my long-time monk friend Deru, at Xiangshan Temple on Tianma Shan, Fu'an, Fujian, a place known locally for its excellent cooking. Deru (whom I had known for years) took me there for dinner and tea after a day of templing in his hometown of Fu'an.
