The great friends Hanshan and Shide are seen on an altar at busy Hanshan Temple (named for the former) in Suzhou, Jiangsu, where tradition says they once lived. "Cold Mountain" was a poet whose work is still celebrated; Gary Snyder and Red Pine did excellent modern translations of his work. Shide (meaning "Pickup" or "Foundling") was also a poet.
