These two are known as the Ni-O (Two Kings) in Japan, but in China they're the Two Generals, Heng and Ha (indicating their closed and open mouths), the pairs-of-opposites guardians at temple gates that represent a sort of Yin and Yang. Here's a pair from Puyou Temple in Chengde, Hebei.
