The Giant Buddha of Leshan, China. Monk Haitong believed he would calm the waters where two rivers met. It worked--perhaps because of the construction debris dumped in the water. Finished in 803, the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world stands 233' high; two people could fit inside his 23' long ears. Note the people in the background!
